But, you might not know how to properly floss.&nbsp;Proper flossing gets rid of plaque and food particles where a toothbrush cannot reach, under your gum line and between the teeth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is strongly recommended that you floss every day to prevent tooth decay and gum disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following technique is recommended to maximize the benefits of flossing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Start with 18 inches of floss. Wrap most of it around your middle finger. Leave a few inches for the next step.<\/li><li>You will hold the floss tautly between your index and thumb fingers. Slide it between your teeth gently.<\/li><li>Gently wrap the floss around each tooth&#8217;s base, making sure to reach below the gum line.&nbsp;Do not force or snap the floss as it can cause damage to delicate gum tissue.<\/li><li>As you go from one tooth to the next, floss cleanly.<\/li><li>Use the same motion to remove floss from teeth.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Which Floss Type Should I Use?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You have two\u00a0types to choose from when it comes to floss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Nylon floss (or multifilament).<\/li><li>PTFE (monofilament floss)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Nylon floss comes in waxed or unwaxed versions and in many flavors.&nbsp;This floss is made up of multiple strands of nylon and can sometimes be ripped or shredded, particularly between teeth that have tight contact points.&nbsp;Single filament floss (PTFE), although more expensive, slides easily between teeth and even in tight spaces. It is almost impossible to shred.&nbsp;Both types of floss can be used to remove plaque and other debris if they are properly used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also use floss picks or\u00a0water flossing\u00a0if regular floss is difficult to use.\u00a0Cleaning between your teeth is a great way to keep your smile shining, no matter what you do.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You may have heard flossing is beneficial for your dental hygiene.
